The w̓iúm̓aqs -m̓ím̓ṇúyaqs Council is an advisory and support institution of the Haíɫzaqv government that represents the voice and inherent strength of all Haíɫzaqv people in accordance with their role as knowledge keepers and their responsibility to pass on knowledge, teachings and wisdom from one generation to the next.

Several of our women gathered to discuss and frame a declaration to identify how we are to be treated, regarded and included. Their input was penned by Jess Housty and facilitated by Louisa Jones. this document stands as our official declaration—the keystone for the inclusion, respect, and protection of our women and girls.

who we are

The w̓iúm̓aqs -m̓ím̓ṇúyaqs Council represents the political and cultural voice of Haíɫzaqv women and girls within the Haíɫzaqv governance system inclusive to those who live in and away from the community of Bella Bella. It is also the voice of all Haíɫzaqv people who may need support, guidance and advocacy.

The overall objective is to foster collective governance to enhance social, cultural, educational, judicial, economic and familial wellbeing within Haíɫzaqv society.
